The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party.
We believe that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many, not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together, freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.
We believe that every person should have the same opportunities in life – regardless of their gender, their skin colour, where they were born or who their parents are.
North Swindon Labour Party
North Swindon Labour is a very active, diverse, and friendly group of people. Together we believe in building a better future for Swindon and a fairer society for the country. We work for jobs and rebuilding our local economy, a town centre that we can all be proud of reflecting our railway heritage, education including good schools where they are needed most and action to lay the foundations for a University for Swindon, a 21st century transport system, decent housing, and action on the cost of living.
The constituency of North Swindon was created in 1997, incorporating the northern parts of the old Swindon constituency - which had been in place since 1918. Michael Wills (Labour) was MP from 1997 until stepping down in 2010. Labour lost the seat in 2010 - however we're working hard to make sure we take it back in 2015, having selected Mark Dempsey as our Parliamentary Candidate.
How to Get Involved
We hold regular meetings with political discussion, guest speakers, and contributions from our local councillors and Parliamentary Candidate Mark Dempsey. Meetings are open to all members and we welcome new members to come along.
We also host regular social events, including dinners and receptions. Recent guests have included Ed Balls, Rachel Reeves, Margaret Hodge, Hilary Benn, Owen Jones, Tessa Jowell, Chris Bryant and David Blunkett. We also have active youth, student and women's groups.
North Swindon Labour Party is organised into branches which correspond to electoral wards or groups of wards in the constituency. Branch meetings are open to all members in the branch and enable local members to get together and organise campaigning in their area.
