Our Positive Plan for a Better Swindon
Swindon is a town with huge potential. Our plan for a Better Swindon will deliver the real change our town needs.
Our Positive Plan for a Better Swindon includes five key actions to deliver a town we can all be proud of. Our case is simple – Swindon can and must be better. We need action to:
- Rebuild our local economy and get our young people back into work
- Regenerate our town centre with our railway heritage at its heart
- Unlock the talent of our young people through a New School for North Swindon and a University
- Develop a transport system fit for the 21st Century
- We need action on the Cost of Living

Labour will rebuild our local economy and get our young people back into work
Labour will create an ambitious vision for the regeneration of our town centre with our railway heritage at its heart
Labour will unlock the talent of our young people through a New School for North Swindon and a long term plan for a University
Labour will develop a transport system fit for the 21st Century including a new Northern Link Road and improvements to Cricklade Road
We need action on the Cost of Living, including Labour’s two year energy price freeze
Labour will deliver a compulsory jobs guarantee in Swindon - for every young person out of work for more than a year.
We will expand high-quality apprenticeships for school-leavers - in science, technology, engineering and maths so that our young people will be equipped for the high-quality jobs of the future.
Labour will seek to attract new businesses and jobs to Swindon - Including new green tech and high tech companies.
The Tories have failed to regenerate our town centre. - Labour led the way with our own vision for town centre regeneration.
We will put Swindon railway heritage first - and prioritise a new iconic art gallery.
Labour will cut business rates - to help fill vacant shops and help the high street.
We will prioritise modern walkways over the railway line - linking the town centre to the Outlet Village and North Star.
The Tories are presiding over a school places crisis in Swindon - as families struggle to get their children into their local school.
Labour is campaigning for a New School - and to focus investment on where schools are needed most.
We will press for the creation of a University for Swindon - to unlock opportunity for our young people, improve people’s skills and support business and industry in Swindon.
Labour has led the campaign for a Northern Link Road - to improve access to the town centre.
We are also calling for improvements to Cricklade Road - to tackle congestion at Moonrakers junction.
We will increase spending on road resurfacing - by more than £1m a year to reduce potholes.
We want Swindon to be more cyclist friendly - with safe cycling and walking routes into and around the town centre.
Working people - are on average almost £1,600 a year worse off under this Government.
Labour will freeze - your gas and electricity bills for 2 years.
Labour will expand free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds - from 15 to 25 hours per week for working parents, paid for by an £800m rise in the bank levy.
