It’s an honour and privilege to have been selected for North Swindon. I am going to work my socks off, you may already know me through my local campaigning against austerity cuts or working together for the Labour Party.
I believe that I am the right person for the job and have a proven record of passionate and tireless campaigning with Labour and as secretary to the Swindon People’s Assembly a role I have now given up to devote my time to helping get Labour into power both locally and nationally.
My values are Labour values. My politics revolve around equality, social justice and inclusion.
Lately, I have been in the Swindon Advertiser as a ‘defender of human rights’ because I was the recipient of an award from Amnesty International and being shortlisted for the Pride of Swindon Award.
Together we will defend our public services, fight to have our voices heard and hold Justin Tomlinson and the Conservatives to account.
I can regularly be seen on the doorstep talking to voters or out with the teams delivering leaflets. In the last couple of weeks, I have attended the STarc meeting about the traffic concerns around the New Eastern Villages, the public meeting about the future of Lydiard Park and the residents meeting addressing the traffic problems in Rodbourne because of the Outlet Village.
At present I am working with the homelessness agencies and the Labour group to establish a strategy to alleviate the problems in Swindon.
In the past I have been involved with the Save Swindon’s Libraries campaign, Save Swindon’s children’s centres, Swindon Housing Action Campaign, lobbying parliament for fair school funding, and standing on the picket lines with the firefighters, BMW workers, junior doctors and Advertiser journalists. I have organised coaches from Swindon to national events and organised public meetings and demonstrations to get our voices heard. I have raised money for or volunteered or worked with the homelessness charities, the refugee charities, Labour councillors, the Labour party, Keep Our NHS public and the unions. I firmly believe in the power of collective action and solidarity.
I am very well known in Swindon and have lived here for most of my life. Three generations of my family work, live and access services here. I have made strong and lasting friendships and political bonds. I have a solid foundation of support here in my home town.
Having lived in Swindon for most of my life, I know the frustrations and struggles we face. I am passionate about decent affordable housing, properly funded social care and health services, mental health facilities, protecting workers rights, stopping benefit cuts for people with disabilities and benefit sanctions, making education free to all ages and investing in our town. I have a proven track record of standing up for peoples’ rights and defending our communities and public services
I will lead an energetic, honest and winning campaign. I will listen to the constituents and put their best interests at the forefront of everything I do. I will speak loudly and clearly for North Swindon and the Labour party.
