One Nation Labour

We will build a Britain that rewards hard work, not just privilege, and ensures the next generation does better than the last.

Whether you're a Labour Party member, or not, we want to hear your ideas on how the next Labour Government should tackle the challenges that face Britain today – such as how we tackle the cost of living crisis while bringing down the deficit in a fairer way, and how we can create growth that works for everyone, not just a few at the top.

What Labour will do

We are the party of many and we are committed to creating a fairer Britain for all. A Labour government will:

1. Tackle the cost-of-living crisis by:

Ending rip-off prices on energy bills – we’ll freeze gas and electricity bills until 2017 and reform the broken energy market to stop the cost of energy bills soaring.

Helping people get on the housing ladder – Labour will build the homes Britain needs by getting 200,000 homes built a year by 2020. We will get a fair deal for renters with a ban on rip-off letting fees.

Supporting working parents with the cost of childcare – we will give working parents 25 hours of free childcare for three and four-year-olds per week.

2. Save our NHS by:

Tackling NHS waiting times and putting patients first – we will guarantee that you will be able to see a GP within 48 hours, which will help to tackle A&E waiting times.

Providing fairer access to mental health services – we will make mental health the priority it deserves to be, ensuring people have access to the treatment and services they need.

Creating a 21st Century NHS for complex needs – we will make patient services fit for the future by bringing together physical health, mental health and social care into a single system of whole-person care.

3. Build an economy for the many, not just the few by:

Making sure everyone who works can afford to live – we will raise the minimum wage and incentivise companies' adoption of a living wage. We will cut income tax for 24 million people.

Backing our entrepreneurs and small businesses – we will make it easier to start and grow businesses. We’ll create a British investment bank that will lend money to new and growing businesses. We'll support small businesses by cutting business rates for 1.5 million small firms and freezing their energy bills.

Balancing the books, doing it in a fairer way – we will reverse David Cameron’s tax cut for millionaires and cut spending where it is sensible to do so.

4. Create opportunities for all young people by:

Raising school standards across Britain – every child deserves a great education. The Tories have allowed unqualified teachers into our classrooms. We will make sure every permanent teacher is fully qualified.

Transforming vocational education – the 50% of young people who don’t go to university will get the training they need for skilled jobs, via apprenticeships, technical qualifications at age 18, and new technical degrees.

Getting young people back to work – we will guarantee a job for every young person who has been out of work for more than a year and access to training to develop the skills they need.

5. Undo the damage the Tories have done:

Protecting the most vulnerable – David Cameron's hated Bedroom Tax is hitting more than 400,000 disabled people. It's cruel, it's unfair, and it doesn't work. Labour will scrap it and pay for it by closing tax-dodging loopholes.

Stopping the creeping privatisation of the NHS – we will scrap the Health and Social Care Act and make sure the NHS is driven by patients' needs, not profit.

Ensuring fairness in our tax system – under the Conservatives, people at the top haven’t made the same sacrifices as everyone else. We will reverse David Cameron’s tax cut for millionaires and cut taxes for millions instead.
